A woman has doctors scratching their heads in Bangladesh.
Just 26 days after giving birth to her first child, Arifa Sultana Iti, 20, returned to the hospital to deliver twins, AFP reports.
While the woman’s son was delivered prematurely on Feb. 25, it was a normal delivery at the Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Khulna.
But the doctors there didn’t catch that Iti had a second uterus. And Iti didn’t know either.
“She didn’t realize she was still pregnant with the twins,” Sheila Poddar, the gynecologist who treated Iti, told AFP. “Her waters broke again 26 days after the first baby was born and she rushed to us.”
On March 22, Iti fell sick and was taken back to the hospital, where Poddar helped her deliver a girl and a boy through cesarean section.
Iti lives in the southwestern city of Jessore. And while she’s happy with her three children, she said she’s a bit worried about raising them, adding that her husband makes just about $70 a month as a laborer.
“I don’t know how we will manage such a huge responsibility with this little amount,” she said.
“It was a miracle from Allah that all of my children are healthy,” her husband, Sumon Biswas, said. “I will try my best to keep them happy.”
