Students at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy blew bubbles, hula-hooped and snapped pictures at Aspinwall Riverfront Park on April 12, all in the name of raising money for their elementary school that sits just blocks away.

The first-ever “Panther Prowl” walk-a-thon involved students soliciting pledges for walking around the park’s track and taking some time to have fun, too, said Katie Lovett, director of marketing and admissions.

“They got tattoos with the school logo, snapped pictures in a CDTCA personalized frame and blew bubbles,” she said.

“It was a great new fundraiser for us, which also incorporated the town of Aspinwall.”

Fundraising efforts brought in nearly $8,000, Lovett said.

Elissa Tunno, the parent-teacher-guild president, said the inaugural event allowed students to take advantage of the waterfront park, which is a town gem.

“The students enjoyed the park on a Friday afternoon, all while raising money for their school,” she said.
