The Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Policy Committee will hold a special hearing Tuesday in Pittsburgh on “Controlling Methane Emissions.”
The hearing, scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon at the Teamsters Temple, 4701 Butler Street, Lawrenceville, will explore how Gov. Tom Wolf’s targets on carbon pollution can be met. Wolf pledged in January that state government would cut greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent by 2025 and by 80 percent by 2050 — both from 2005 levels.
The hearing will be led by state Sens. Lisa Boscola, D-Bethlehem, Jay Costa, D-Pittsburgh, and Wayne Fontana, D-Pittsburgh.
Among those testifying will be Andrew Williams, director of regulatory and legislative affairs for the Environmental Defense Fund; Rebecca Kiernan, senior resilience coordinator for the city of Pittsburgh; Arvind Ravikumar, assistant professor of energy engineering at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology; Jared Metcalf, U.S. operations manager for Target Emission Services, Canonsburg; and Rob Altenburg, director of PennFuture Energy Center.
