Marshall offering pair of programs to help get green thumbers going

A pair of programs are being offered by the Marshall Township Department of Parks and Recreation for gardeners who want to add to the menu of things they grow or swap what they planted with others.

Perennial Exchange

A Perennial Exchange is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 at the Elias Fry Barn in Knob Hill Park.

Participants can bring sections of their favorite ground cover to the event and exchange them with neighbors who have grown different varieties.

Please place a label indicating the type of perennial and whether its best suited for sun or shade.

Fresh Herbs Grown by You

Vicki Wiegand of Shenot Farms will lead a workshop on growing an herb garden in containers from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28.

Participants will receive a planter, soil, young herb plants and instruction on how to care for them.

Wiegand also will share tips on cooking with herbs and storing them for winter use.

The cost is $25 per person or $30 for non-residents. The deadline to sign up is May 20.

The program will be held in Marshall Warren Room at the municipal building, 526 Pleasant Hill Road.
