Fox Chapel Area School District is giving area residents one last peek inside the halls of Kerr Elementary before demolition of the school which for 90 years has served the community.

The building along Kittanning Pike in O’Hara is expected to be dismantled beginning June 12, while construction of a new $21 million elementary school transforms the adjacent side of the campus.

Kerr’s “Last Open House” will be 6 to 8 p.m. June 6.

“We wanted to make sure that the generations of students who have gone through its doors had a chance to say a final farewell,” said Jill Leonard, district community engagement specialist.

“Though we look forward to the innovative programs and new memories that the new Kerr Elementary will bring starting this fall, we recognize that the old building has a special place in many hearts and we wanted to give people the opportunity to walk its halls one more time.”

Light refreshments will be served.

Leonard asked that visitors refrain from removing any items from the building during the event.

Students are expected to begin the 2019-2020 school year in the new building, a 72,348-square-foot site with collaborative labs and makerspaces to encourage hands-on learning.
