Opening its 70th season, the Sunday Band Concert Series returned to Ligonier on May 26.

Members of the Ligonier Valley High School concert and jazz bands and percussion ensemble set up in front of Ligonier Town Hall, as concert-goers parked their chairs in the street (closed to traffic for the duration) and on the grassy expanse of the recently refurbished Diamond.

It’s traditional for the student musicians, under the direction of Bethany Trickett, to play the season’s first date.

The series is sponsored by the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president Scott Haines and events and marketing coordinator Ruthie Stewart were seen enjoying the music, as was Ligonier Mayor Butch Bellas.

Though the dog days of summer aren’t upon us yet, it was a dog’s night out, as several pooches were seen enjoying the fine spring weather with their owners.
