Shady Side Academy celebrated the 125 students in the Class of 2019 at Senior School commencement on May 31.
Bagpiper George Balderose led the processional, playing “The March of the King of Laois” and the Chamber Choir sang “You Are The New Day.”
Lisa Schroeder, incoming president and CEO of The Pittsburgh Foundation, gave the graduation address and graduate Hanwen “Hank” Lin spoke to his fellow seniors about curiosity, creativity and celebrating the human spirit.
Senior Andrew Sveda announced the class gift — a commissioned piece of artwork on the six pillars near the corridor of the new Glimcher Tech and Design Hub. Sveda said the remaining $9,000 raised by the class was gifted to the budget of Lillian Grate, the Academy’s director of equity, inclusion and community relations, to further her work.
