The gallery in the new History Education Center at Historic Hanna’s Town is hosting its first exhibition, “Scenes of Westmoreland: Visions in Light,” featuring photos taken by members of the Westmoreland Photographers Society.

The show, running through the end of August, is a study in the beauty of Westmoreland County, including historic and cultural sites, landscapes, nature, people and events.

Of 120 images submitted, 31 were selected by Westmoreland County Historical Society collections manager Joanna Moyar and education coordinator Pam Curtin, with executive director Lisa Hays serving as their self-described “gofer” in the hanging of the exhibition.

Moyar’s husband, artist Brian McCall, was in charge of framing.

“These images are wonderful examples of how the photographers used light to enhance and define their vision of time, place and the character of many familiar places in our county,” according to the photographers’ statement.

Many pieces are for sale.

A reception for the 10 featured photographers was held June 20 in the new exhibition space at the Hempfield historical site. Participants include Bob DeJesus, Janice Fiorina, Ann Geiger, Melissa Hayden, Elizabeth King, Brian Kloock, Rex Moyer, Jim Murphy, Dorothy Pierini-Rogers and Bob Rogers.

Seen viewing the work: Lou and Joan DeRose, Bruce Shirey, Duane Miller, Pat Murphy, Carole Moyer, John Waclo, Tony and Penny Kistner, Sharon Tinkey and Connie Tinkey.

Information on gallery hours is available from the historical society at 724-836-1800 or westmorelandhistory.org.
