Hillman Performing Arts offers musicians, mentalists and modern-day circus

With seven new shows announced for the 2019-2020 season, the Hillman Performing Arts Series is bringing music, illusions and a modern-day circus to the stage at Shady Side Academy.
The series kicks off Sept. 28 with Dom Flemons, known as the American Songster, in a solo acoustic performance of folk and ballad covers.
The Grammy Award winner is a two-time Emmy nominee who is fluent on the banjo, fife, harmonica and guitar. His 2018 release, “Dom Flemons Presents Black Cowboys” received a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album.
Founded in 2004, the Hillman Center for Performing Arts aims to make cultural events accessible to all.
The Hillman series runs through April, with all shows at the Shady Side Academy Senior School campus, 423 Fox Chapel Road.
In October, the series will feature illusionist Wayne Hoffman. His show, “Mind Candy,” is touted as a melting pot of mind-reading mysteries that will have audience members on the edge of their seats. It hits the stage on Oct. 19.
Other shows are scheduled to include jazz pianist Ariel Pocock on Nov. 16, a cappella group Six Appeal Vocal Band on Dec. 14, violinist Tami Lee Hughes on Feb. 15, Celtic bank Blackwater on March 14 and the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus on April 18.
