Hundreds of children got most everything they need for a new school year Saturday at the Salvation Army of Greensburg’s seventh annual Back 2 School Bash.
The Salvation Army and other local organizations teamed up for the event, which offered activities like a bounce house and face-painting while also helping children in need prepare for the year ahead.
The Greensburg Rotary gave out bags full of hygiene and school supplies, students from Greensburg Salem High School distributed picture books, and the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Conference of the St. Vincent De Paul Society distributed gift cards for children to get a free pair of shoes.
Several local salons and barbers offered free haircuts, while the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department gave tours of a fire engine.
More than 350 children registered. The final count wasn’t available Saturday, but with walk-ins the total was expected to be well over 400, said May Kay Mackneer, program assistant for the Salvation Army.
“It’s a really fun, great event to not only prepare the kids to go to school, but to get them excited about it,” Mackneer said.
