As the dog days of summer wind down, dog owners whose pups enjoy a little pool time can bring their furry friends to Youngwood Dog Club’s “Doggy Swim Day.”

The second annual event will be held at noon Sept. 7 at Youngwood Park & Pool, says Rodney Little, club president.

“We will have food trucks, face painting, a caricaturist, music. Ashley Nye Funeral Home and For the Love of Furbabies are our business sponsors,” Little says.

The event is a fundraiser for the nonprofit club, he says.

Little plans to roll out an initiative awarding annual $500 grants to area animal shelters over the next five years.

Tickets for the event are $12 per dog, or a $5 donation for humans unaccompanied by a dog.

Dining with the dogs

On Oct. 11, the club will host its first “Dinner with the Dogs,” beginning at 6 p.m. at Ferrante’s Lakeview, 6153 Route 30, Hempfield.

“This has been a dream and vision of mine I’ve had for quite some time now,” Little says.

The event will feature dogs who are long-time shelter residents and in need of good homes, he says. The dogs will walk down a red carpet as attendees hear their names and stories.

Five nonprofit shelters are expected to bring 15 to 20 dogs to the event.

The fundraiser will include a basket raffle and 50/50, Little says.

Tickets are $35.

Moving on

In addition to those activities, the club will move into a new space on Sept. 10.

A 5:50 p.m. ribbon-cutting will be held for its new location at Ignite Headquarters Coworking Space, 4 S. Fourth St., Youngwood, Little says.
