A hazmat team was called to Donegal Township on Tuesday when a truck started leaking battery acid on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to Westmoreland County 911.

The truck was travelling east on the turnpike, carrying pallets of batteries, according to 911.

The driver noticed acid leaking from the truck around 3:15 a.m., near the Donegal interchange.

A Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said he didn’t know how large the spill was, but the road was still open as of 4:45 a.m.

The Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and others were on the scene early Tuesday morning.
