Monroeville will be getting a Planet Fitness.

According to a building permit filed with Monroeville in August, the fitness center is slated to move into vacant space at 3813 William Penn Highway, next to Value City.

The permit includes plans to construct a new partial exterior wall with decorative gear, remove non-bearing walls inside and leveling floors for around $850,000.

The permit, which does not need to be approved by the planning commission or council, does not include a timeline for completion.

Jared Fletcher, franchisee spokesman, said he expects the Monroeville location to be open by Jan. 1. He said sites in McKeesport and Crafton are also expected to open this year.

There are a little more than 100 Planet Fitness locations spread throughout Pennsylvania, according to Planet Fitness’ website.

As of June 2019, there are over 1,800 sites located in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Canada and Dominican Republic, Panama and Mexico.

Memberships start at $10 per month.
