A West Virginia man was stopped Tuesday by Transportation Security Administration officers with a loaded gun at the Pittsburgh International Airport, the agency said.
It was the 30th gun stopped by the TSA at the airport this year.
The man, from Glenville, in central West Virginia, had a .380 caliber handgun that was loaded with six bullets, including one in the chamber, according to the TSA.
He was detained, the gun was confiscated and he was questioned by Allegheny County Police, the TSA said.
TSA spokeswoman Linda Farbstein said the TSA can fine people up to $13,333 for weapons violations. A typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $4,100, she said in a news release.
On its website, the TSA details how people can legally travel with a firearm.
Pittsburgh is on pace to surpass the 34 guns that were confiscated in 2018 at the airport.
