Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner said Friday she is looking forward to going to trial next week on criminal charges stemming from a March 6 confrontation in Detroit with employees of a hotel and police officers.

“Basically we’re looking forward to having everything be fully revealed,” Wagner said. “I certainly anticipate to be found 100% innocent, and I think that’s always been apparent.”

Wagner, 42, of North Point Breeze, and her husband, Khari Mosley, 43, went to Detroit for a Nas concert as a post-Valentine’s Day celebration.

After the show, they returned to the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit. Wagner went to her room and went to sleep. Mosley went to the hotel bar and later realized he didn’t have a key to their room.

That’s when a confrontation started, first with hotel staff and security and ultimately with Detroit police. It ended with Wagner being taken to jail in handcuffs.

Wagner and Mosley maintain they are the victims of hotel staff and police who acted improperly. Authorities charged Wagner with resisting and obstructing the police and disorderly conduct, and Mosley with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Mosley was found not guilty on July 15. Wagner’s trial starts Tuesday in Wayne County Common Pleas Court.

“This had always been a retaliatory story. The charges were filed after they received notice that we were suing them after the abhorrent treatment by the hotel and the mistakes made by police,” Wagner said.

Maria Miller, a spokeswoman for the Wayne County prosecutor’s office, said the trial is expected to proceed.

Wagner was re-elected to her post Tuesday by a large margin.
