The permanent collection of The Westmoreland Museum of American Art is increasing by two pieces, courtesy of the Westmoreland Society.

During their annual dinner Dec. 6 in the Greensburg facility, members voted to purchase “Divine Plan,” a 2003 mixed-media piece by Tina Williams Brewer, and “Flourish,” an oil on canvas completed this year by Cara Livorio.

Pittsburgh-based Brewer is a teaching artist and “an internationally renowned fiber artist known for her artistic exploration of African American history and culture. She uses layered textiles, images and embellishments to create story quilts rich with symbolism and is motivated by issues focusing on family, women, and spirituality,” according to her website.

Livorio is the owner of Artissima, an art school, gallery and art boutique, in Fox Chapel. Her current series of work, “B(L)OOM!” — which includes the society’s purchase — “takes floral compositions that are naturally beautiful in design and elevates them into an expression of color, form, and texture that is dynamic and raw,” according to her website.

Also during dinner, the society’s Gold Medal Award was presented to Pam and Scott Kroh of Latrobe for their support of the arts.

Guests enjoyed music by a quartet from the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra and dined on entrees of Herb-Roasted Pork Tenderloin and Roasted Vegetable Napoleon.
