Visit the Ligonier Town Hall community room through Dec. 10 and you’ll be walking in a winter wonderland.

The Ligonier Valley Historical Society has taken over the space for its 37th Festival of Lights, which opened Dec. 6 with a “Toast the Trees” reception.

Guests descending the steps to the community room were greeted by the text and a tableau of scenes from Clement Moore’s “A Visit From Saint Nicholas,” commonly known as ‘“Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

From children nestled snug in their beds to sugar plums to the jolly old elf himself, it was all there — along with dozens of trees, wreaths and decorative items created by community members, organizations and businesses available during a silent auction.

There also were special packages such as pampering at Seven Springs Mountain Resort’s Trillium Spa and getaways to Pittsburgh and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Holiday decor items not claimed on opening night can be purchased by visitors during the festival’s run. Proceeds benefit the society’s historical preservation efforts, including operation of the Compass Inn Museum in Laughlintown.

Festival committee included LVHS Executive Director Theresa Gay Rohall, Jeanie Calnan, George Conte, Glenda Dixon, Jack Fry, Allana Kondisko, Joyce Miller, Karen O’Connor, Rachel Roehrig, Zlata Ryan, Debbie Sarault, Rick and Theresa Schwab, Kathy Wood and Susan Woolridge.
