A pickup truck overturned Tuesday night on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near Interstate 376 in Monroeville, spurring a traffic backlog for several miles in each direction.

No one was seriously injured, a Turnpike Operations Center spokesman said.

The report of the crash came in at about 5:20 p.m. in the westbound lanes. The accident caused debris to fly all over the heavily trafficked thoroughfare, prompting officials to shut down stretches of the Turnpike temporarily to clear the wreckage.

All lanes reopened shortly after 6 p.m., but a backlog persisted from Plum to Penn Township in Westmoreland County for nearly two hours.

“It’s still just crawling,” the Turnpike spokesman said shortly before 7 p.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
