We lose an hour of sleep this weekend as we spring forward on Sunday morning. There’s still plenty of time to enjoy Pittsburgh this weekend. Here are some options:
By the book
The musical comedy “The Book of Merman” runs Friday through Sunday at the CLO Cabaret, Downtown. Director Gerry McIntyre returns to spearhead the take-off on “The Book of Mormon,” after directing last season’s “Spamilton: An American Parody.” Here is a description from the Pittsburgh CLO: “Two Mormon missionaries ring the doorbell of Ethel Merman and hilarity ensues in this new musical comedy. This diva-driven whirlwind features original songs and show-stopping ballads, combining one of Broadway’s smash hits with the larger-than-life persona of the legendary belter Ethel Merman. “

Feel at home
The 39th annual Duquesne Light Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show opens Friday at the David Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown.
The event will feature a wide variety of vendors selling everything from patios and decks to barbecue grills, spas and pools. More than 1,800 exhibits will be set up over 10 acres make it the largest home event in America, welcoming 350,000 guests during the 10-day show.

Pretty petals
This is the final weekend to attend “Orchid and Tropical Bonsai Show: Out of This World” at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Oakland. There are hundreds of orchids, plus a collection of tropical bonsai. Palm Court has star-shaped orchids. The Serpentine Room has a tropical bonsai collection as well as mosses and ferns. Visitors can use magnifying glasses to get a closer look.

Strike up the band
The U.S. Army Field Band presents “America the Beautiful” Friday at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Oakland. The event is part of the concert band & soldiers’ chorus spring tour. The music will honor veterans of every generation and recognize the soldiers serving today in more than 140 countries.

Glass works
A group of artists will showcase the glass work they’ve created with the technology and modern machines at the exhibit “Silica Valley” at the Pittsburgh Glass Center in the East End. It opens with a reception on Friday and an artist meet-and-greet and gallery tour on Saturday. The show is curated by John Sharvin and will feature art by Brandyn Callahan & Phirak Suon, Vanessa Cutler, Daniel Cutrone, Jenn Figg & Mathew McCormack, Fred Kahl, Joanne Mitchell and Norwood Viviano.
