Police have arrested a Pittsburgh man suspected of throwing a concrete block at a police truck during a May 30 protest that turned violent.
George Allen, 31, faces charges of aggravated assault, riot, propulsion of missiles, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
Police said two Pittsburgh officers were in a Tactical Operations Support truck near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Washington Place when someone picked up “a large projectile” and threw it at the truck, smashing the front passenger window and injuring the arm of an officer.
Allen is accused of hurling the block about 25 feet at the vehicle, according to a criminal complaint.
The officer driving was “sprayed with broken glass.”

Police said they were leaving the area because of the “riotous nature from the crowd of people.”
Police sought the public’s help June 10 in identifying a suspect, who was depicted in four photographs. At the time, police said he was suspected of throwing a broken piece of cinder block through the window of a Tactical Operations Support truck during the Pittsburgh protests connected to George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
Using video footage collected from street cameras, social media and an officer’s body camera, detectives said they were able to identify Allen. When police solicited the public’s help, they received several tips.
Court records showed Allen had yet to be arraigned.
