Heroes don’t quit, they reschedule.
Because covid-19 restrictions have made fundraising difficult for the 12th annual Hero Walk, organizers have decided to postpone the walk, normally held in the later half of June, to Sept. 12 through 26, said Jim Scahill, of Kittanning, a board member and former Armstrong County Commissioner.
A small group of veterans/fundraisers take the 320-mile long trek from Philadelphia to Lower Burrell VFW Post 92 to raise awareness of veterans and to provides benefits to those veterans in need.
Although they haven’t been able to stage fundraising events in earnest this year for the Hero Walk, “we’re alive and well and busy helping veterans,” Scahill said.
Last year, the group raised $160,000 to help Pennsylvania veterans with basic needs.
