A seasonal employee at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium tested positive for covid-19, officials said Monday.
The employee was asymptomatic, and had been tested after an extended family member tested positive. The employee has not been on zoo property since June 23, according to a statement.
Employees who interacted with the employee who tested positive are now in quarantine, the statement said. The zoo did not say how many employees.
The zoo reopened June 5 as the county moved into the green phase of Gov. Tom Wolf’s reopening plan, with certain health and safety restrictions. The playground is closed, there is no tram service and capacity is limited.
All employees are required to wear a mask and regularly wash their hands.
“We have contacted the proper advisers with the Allegheny Health Department and enacted our rigorous safety and cleaning protocol,” the statement reads.
