A South Fayette man shot his stepfather in the face Wednesday night and then killed himself after being confronted by officers, according to Allegheny County Police.

The stepfather, 67, is expected to survive, police said.

The shooting happened during a domestic dispute at a home on Caledonia Court, police said.

Police did not identify the 49-year-old stepson, but said he ran from the home after shooting his stepfather.

When police arrived, the man refused to give up his gun, according to police. Officers attempted to negotiate with him, but the man shot himself in the head.

Both men were taken to the hospital, where the 49-year-old man died.

Further details were not immediately available.
