Allegheny County recorded new coronavirus cases in triple digits for the seventh straight day on Wednesday.
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 125 new cases, along with five additional deaths and 10 new hospitalizations.
The five deaths attributed to coronavirus happened from July 14-24 and ranged in age from 70 to 90 years old.
The 125 new cases came from 1,310 test results reported to the department, with tests conducted from July 8-28. Of those new cases, 122 are confirmed and three are probable.
While the new cases ranged in age from 1 to 98 years old — with a median age of 52 — the new cases struck older Pennsylvanians the most. Here are the new case breakdowns from the health department:
- Age 65 and older: 35
- Age 50-64: 27
- Age 25-49: 34
- Age 19-24: 15
- Age 13-18: 5
- Age 5-12: 5
- Age 0-4: 4
Among all Pennsylvania counties on Wednesday, Allegheny had the most new cases, followed by Philadelphia (111), Delaware (62), Montgomery (52) and Lehigh (42). There were 16 counties that reported no new cases.
Pennsylvania reports that since the outbreak began, 112,704 individual tests have been conducted from Allegheny County, for a positivity rate of 6.85%.
All told, Allegheny County has reported 4,871 cases in July, with a total of 7,718 cases since the outbreak reached Pennsylvania in March. There have been 234 deaths and 613 hospitalizations in the county. The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reporting 227 deaths in Allegheny County, a discrepancy that’s been credited to different reporting methods between the county and the state.
