Western Pennsylvania is home to several colleges and universities, attracting students from around the state and country. During the coronavirus pandemic, many are tracking the number of positive covid-19 cases as they emerge on campus.

University of Pittsburgh

Enrollment: Approximately 35,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 40 new student cases added this week (as of Sept. 18).

Isolation bed capacity: 179 beds. There are 64 students in isolation.

Total confirmed cases: 203 students and 11 faculty and staff since Aug. 1

University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg Campus

Enrollment: Approximately 1,500

Number of active cases: None (as of Sept. 18)

Total confirmed cases: None

Carnegie Mellon University

Enrollment: Approximately 14,000 students

Number of new cases: One new student case was added this week (Sept. 14-18).

Isolation bed capacity: According to a university spokesman, the exact number of beds available depends upon the timing and circumstances of the need, as many students are already in private rooms.

Total confirmed cases: There have been 39 student cases so far this semester, and 45 student cases since March (on- and off-campus).

Chatham University

Enrollment: Approximately 2,300

Number of new cases: One new student case was added this week, a commuter (as of Sept. 17).

Isolation bed capacity: 40 rooms

Total confirmed cases: Two students since Aug. 17

Point Park University

Enrollment: Approximately 4,100

Number of new cases: One new student case was added this week (as of Sept. 18).

Isolation bed capacity: 32 beds. Nineteen students are in isolation/quarantine, an increase of 17 students from last week.

Total confirmed cases: One student since Aug. 30

Duquesne Univerity

Enrollment: Approximately 9,500 students

Number of new cases: There were no new student cases added this week (as of Sept. 17).

Isolation bed capacity: There are 39 students in isolation or quarantine.

Total confirmed cases: 10 students

Indiana University of Pennsylvania

Enrollment: Approximately 12,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 49 new student cases added this week (Sept. 15-17). Thirteen are on-campus residents, and 36 live 0ff-campus.

Isolation bed capacity: 170 beds. Sixteen students are in isolation.

Total confirmed cases: 136 students and employees since the fall semester began. There have been 54 recoveries.

Seton Hill University

Enrollment: Approximately 1,700

Number of new cases: One new student case was added this week (as of Sept. 18).

Isolation bed capacity: 21 beds

Total confirmed cases: One commuter student since Aug. 17

Slippery Rock University

Enrollment: Approximately 9,000 students

Number of new cases: There were 21 new student cases added this week (Sept. 11-17).

Isolation bed capacity: 57 beds. There are 49 students in isolation and 65 in quarantine.
