Pennsylvania State Police launched an investigation Tuesday after a hunter reported finding materials associated with methamphetamine production in Green Township, Indiana County.
Troopers discovered several plastic bags near a wooded area along Barr Road. After discovering the items, the State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was called in. They said they processed seven suspected one-pot vessels and six acid generators along with empty chemical bottles and packages used in manufacturing methamphetamine.
A one-pot is typically a 20- ounce soda bottle in which meth making ingredients are combined.
Police say they were unable to find evidence at the dumpsite that would help them identify a suspect.
“When they process a scene like this, they’re looking for any evidence that would assist in identifying the person who discarded it like a receipt or something like that,” said Cliff Greenfield, a state police spokesman.
Greenfield said the discovery of drug making materials in the woods, while not altogether uncommon, remains a significant concern for law enforcement officials.
“We’ve actually been finding quite a few of these here in Indiana County. The primary concern is that these chemicals are very hazardous to your health,” said Greenfield. “If there is still a chemical reaction occurring inside a bottle that was used for the one-pot method, someone picking it up or looking at it, it could explode or even catch fire. We’re glad in this case that the hunter who found these items was alert and notified us.”
State police urges anyone who encounters these one-pot devices to stay away from them and call 9-1-1 immediately.
