A new Dollar General could be coming to Monroeville.
Mitchol Pappan, of MSP Development LLC, received the green light Jan. 20 from the Monroeville Planning Commission for his site plan. The Dollar General would replace an existing building at 2501 Mosside Blvd, which is currently a cell phone repair store, CCi Wireless.
Pappan plans on demolishing the repair store and building a 9,100-square-foot building with 26 parking spaces. The plans also call for a sidewalk along Macbeth Drive and Mosside Boulevard, an amenity that does not exist there.
The building will have two entrances — one along MacBeth Drive and one along Mosside Boulevard.
“The location is great for people who live close by there,” he said.
Birnam Wood Apartments has several apartment buildings along MacBeth and King Lear drives and Hamlet Court. The area also includes Monroe Meadows apartments and Spring Run condominiums.
Dollar General, which touts having more than 17,000 stores across 46 states, sells food, snacks, housewares and other general everyday items, according to its website.
There are 35 Dollar General stores within 10 miles of Monroeville’s zip code, 15146, according to the store’s website. Monroeville has a site at 4500 Broadway Blvd, which would be just under three miles away from Pappan’s proposed site.
The current property’s owner, listed as Cellserv Communications Inc. in Allegheny County real estate records, could not be reached for comment.
Pappan said he expects the store to be ready by early October and hopes to hire around 12 people.
The site plan now heads to Monroeville Council for approval.
