Letter to the editor: Wolf should reduce spending, not hike taxes

Gov. Tom Wolf’s term will end in January 2023. Last month, Wolf proposed the largest income tax increase in Pennsylvania history, from 3.07% to 4.49%, along with billions in new government spending programs. If you live in the city of Pittsburgh, your local earned income tax rate is already 3%; in Philadelphia, it’s 3.87%.

Wolf said that the tax increase will only hit the upper-tier wage earners, just like how we were promised a huge reduction in our property taxes if we approved gambling. I’m still waiting for that one.

Here’s a wild idea: Don’t increase our income taxes, and instead reduce government spending. Blasphemy.
