A Jeannette woman was hit by a train and killed Wednesday, according to the Westmoreland County coroner.
Jacqueline A. Wandler, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene on the Norfolk Southern Railroad in Jeannette. Investigators said she was walking along the tracks at 12:40 a.m. when a conductor and engineer spotted her. The train operator sounded the horn and applied the brakes.
Her death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner. Toxicology results will not be available for several weeks. There was no ruling available on her manner of death.
There were 548 people who were trespassing on rail property across the country in 2020 who were killed by a train, according to Federal Railroad Administration statistics. Of those fatalities, 13 happened in Pennsylvania — including one in Westmoreland County and six in Allegheny.
