Armstrong Trails is presenting Tunnel Jam at the Brady Tunnel in Clarion County on July 31 to raise money for the continuing construction work on the tunnel.

The Brady Tunnel is part of the 36-mile long Armstrong Trails system. The recreational trails, for hiking and cycling, traverses the former Allegheny Valley Railroad line along the eastern bank of the Allegheny River in Armstrong and Clarion counties.

The trails connect Ford City, Kittanning and East Brady. The Brady Tunnel is the link between the northern 4.5-mile portion of the Armstrong trail and the southern 31-mile portion connecting East Brady and Ford City.

Armstrong Trails is raising matching funds, $37,500, to help land a prospective $250,000 grant, said Chris Ziegler, executive director of the Armstrong Trails.

“As a non-profit organization, we need to be creative in raising those matching funds,” Ziegler said.

She hopes the event attracts area residents as well as trail users.

“We would like the public to learn more about the Brady Tunnel project, the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail, and Armstrong Trails,” Ziegler said.

To learn more, visit the Armstrong Trails website.

The event includes a pig roast dinner; live music featuring Max Schang’s “Trio of Blues,” and Dusty Roads; beer and wine from Cellar Works Brewing and Foxburg Wine Cellars; a 50/50 raffle; hot tub raffle; yard games, and more. Tickets are $50

Shuttle service begins at 4:30 p.m. from 1867 Sarah Furnace Road in Rimersburg. Patrons can also bike, hike, or arrive by boat for the event.

Patrons must pre-register; sales are limited to 250 tickets.
