US Open amateur volunteers needed
Online volunteer registration is open for the 2021 U.S. Amateur Championship at Oakmont Country Club.
The competition is Aug. 9-15.
About 400 volunteers are needed to fill positions on more than 15 committees, including marshals, transportation, admissions and disabled services.
Early application allows volunteers to specify their committee preference.
Those interested in volunteering should visit oakmont-countryclub.org.
All volunteers are required to purchase the volunteer package for $100, which includes two golf shirts, a ball cap or visor, one volunteer credential valid for the championship and complimentary food, snacks and beverages on the days they volunteer.
Each volunteer will work 16 to 20 hours, or four to five shifts throughout the championship.
Oakmont previously has hosted 16 USGA championships, which is tied for second overall.

Student news
• Seven Riverview High School graduates received Global Scholars Certificates earlier this year.
Lauren Hornsby, Jakob Killmeyer, Elizabeth Novikova, Elizabeth Shoop, Sydney Wilson, Eleni Wyrick, and Kathryn Zatawski recently were recognized at a ceremony hosted by the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh.
Riverview has partnered with the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia to give students this opportunity since 2018.
The program requires students to take courses in global learning, attend and participate in events with a global focus, and create or support a project centered around global education.
The program that the students helped create and facilitate is a Global Language Education program for elementary students.
It has Riverview students teaching elementary children the languages of Spanish and French as well as familiarizing the children with the culture of the region.
District officials said although the program was unable to be held this year because of the pandemic, the work and effort these students dedicated to this program has set a great foundation for the future.
