The first day of school at Apollo-Ridge on Tuesday was about “getting our students back on track with some routine and consistency,” one administrator said.
Courtney Anderson, the elementary principal, said the staff will focus on co-teaching and small group work to help strengthen students academically.
Students are attending fully in-person and masks are optional, according to the district’s health and safety program.
However, everyone must wear a mask on school buses.
The CDC and the district recommend that non-vaccinated individuals wear face coverings while indoors.
There are no big changes at the district for the new school year, said Superintendent Matt Curci.
He said it was exciting to see the students Tuesday.
“We’ve had a terrific first day — great to get the butterflies out and get into a routine,” he said.
“We’re hoping for a healthy fall where the students can enjoy being on campus and our school community can take part in the activities we love.”
New this year is the district’s middle school offering an exploratory Latin course to seventh-grade students and Latin 1 to some eighth-grade students, said Travis Barta, middle school principal.
The middle school continues to work providing laptops to middle school students, he said.
