Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company officials are organizing a parade and memorial service on the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“I think it’s important for the community to keep the first responders and the military in mind and continue to honor and respect their sacrifice,” said Brian Scott, president of the fire company.
Festivities Saturday start at 1 p.m. with a parade. The parade will line up at First and Market streets.
The route continues down First Street to Main Street; from Main Street to Third Street; from Third Street to Market Street; down Market Street and onto First Street; and ending at the fire station at 268 Canal St.
The Rev. Gary and Lisa Lyons of Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church will serve as the emcees for the service.
The fire company has hosted a festival or some type of service for at least 16 years in honor of the brave men and women who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks.
This year’s anniversary plans originally included a host of food trucks for a Rally on the River.
Those plans were scrapped because of declining participation.
More information about the fire company’s activities is available on its Facebook page.
