Wind, rain leave pockets of power outages behind in Western Pa.

Downed trees and power outages were the order of the day across western Pennsylvania as high winds and rain moved through the region.

Saturday’s wind and rain left behind pockets of power outages across the region, and while most of those have been taken care of in Allegheny County, Westmoreland County and areas east are having electricity issues lingering into Sunday.

West Penn Power reported around 1,500 customers were still without power by around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Wind gusts yesterday topped out at 58 mph in Allegheny County, recorded at the county airport around 3:30 p.m., and 54 mph in Westmoreland County, recorded in Luxor about an hour later, as the strongest line of storms moved through the area.

National Weather Service officials are forecasting a sunny, dry Sunday, with a high of 44, with temperatures steadily rising into the low 50s through Wednesday, when a warm front is expected to move into the Midwest and Great Lakes region and bring some precipitation with it.
