Police: Mother charged for threatening student on Gateway school bus

A Monroeville woman is charged with terroristic threats and other crimes for allegedly threatening a Gateway elementary student on a bus.

Jada Northcutt, 34, got on to a bus with Evergreen Elementary School students at the intersection of Garden City and SunnyField drives the morning of Jan. 27, according to a Monroeville police report.

She allegedly addressed the students saying, “Who was fighting? Anyone on this bus don’t touch my daughter. I’m not playing. We gonna get this handled.”

Police said she then went to one student and said, “If you touch my baby you better (expletive) her up. Don’t get smart with me. I hit kids. I’ll come back there and smack the (expletive) out of you. I’ll meet you at the school.”

Police Chief Doug Cole said officers were able to obtain video of the incident from the district and also spoke with the bus driver about what happened.

“We were notified by the school district that they had someone get on the bus that wasn’t supposed to,” Cole said. “In the past few years, we’ve had other incidents similar to that and (people) have been charged in one form or another from us.”

Cole said no injuries were reported and Northcutt was cited by mail.

The chief said it is department policy not to release video from on an ongoing investigation.

Northcutt is charged with unauthorized school bus entry, simple assault, terroristic threats and two counts of disorderly conduct.

Charges were filed on Feb. 16. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4.

Messages to the Gateway School District superintendent’s office on Feb. 17 were not immediately returned.
