The Pittsburgh Maulers limp into their season finale tied for the worst record in the rebooted USFL, so it’s no surprise that the team had just one player selected for the inaugural all-league team.
Safety Bryce Torneden is the only Maulers player represented on the all-USFL list, the league announced Thursday.
Torneden attended Kansas and appeared in 46 games over four seasons with the Jayhawks. He went undrafted in 2020 and spent time in the developmental Spring League before joining the Maulers this spring.
Torneden has recorded 66 tackles, including 39 solo stops, one interception and one sack through nine games.
Under coach Kirby Wilson, a former running backs coach with the Steelers, the Maulers take a 1-8 record into their season finale Sunday against the Michigan Panthers, who also are 1-8. The Panthers shut out the Maulers, 24-0, to open the USFL season.
The Maulers got their lone win in Week 5, a 21-20 victory against the Houston Gamblers.
