Target is scheduled to open in the old Kaufmann’s building in Downtown Pittsburgh next month.

The grand opening for the Fifth Avenue store is slated for July 17, said Maddie Wojtalewicz, a Target spokesperson.

“At approximately 22,000 square feet, the store will bring an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the community,” she said.

The store will share more details — including the retailer’s plans for “how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests” — ahead of the opening next month, Wojtalewicz said.

The Minneapolis-based chain announced its plans to move into the space in 2020. Target earned approval for a store at the site the next year.

The new store is opening in an art deco building that Target architect Doug Bartolomeo referred to as a “retail masterpiece” when seeking Planning Commission approval last year.

The 108-year-old bronze Kaufmann’s Clock, a local landmark, will be preserved.

Burlington also signed a lease for a portion of the building. Shops will be the anchor retailers of the first floor of the 13-story building, which also houses more than 300 apartments.
