Aspinwall police took to Facebook hoping people would come forward about what happened a goat that was part of a herd clearing brush and noxious plants at Firemen’s Memorial Park and died.

Six goats from Capricious Goats, run by McCandless couple Monica and Timothy Shields, began work to clear the park on June 21. One goat, two-year-old James Vanderbleat, was found dead about two weeks ago at the bottom of the hill.

“Like any loss, it’s hard to get used to what life is like without that personality,” Monica Shields said on July 12. “We’re not exactly sure what happened.”

The five remaining goats were expected to conclude their work in Aspinwall July 15.

Monica Shields said replacing a goat in a working herd is not as simple as just adding another animal.

“I try to take my animals into consideration, and I know they’re not all comfortable with each other,” she said. “You have groups of them go around with each other.”
