The Sewickley Academy community showcased their generosity once again with the annual “Spirit of Community” Thanksgiving Food Drive. On Nov. 16, students from the Lower, Middle and Senior schools delivered donated goods to the Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge.
Over the two-week collecting period, the Academy’s families, faculty and staff donated more than 950 items and collected more than $1,600. Donations included 67 pounds of potatoes along with 51 packages of instant mashed potatoes, 104 cans of green beans, 185 boxes of macaroni and cheese, and 64 cans of pie filling, along with corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, yams/sweet potatoes and marshmallows, cornbread mix, coffee, soup, and more.
The food will help during the Thanksgiving and winter holidays while the funds went toward purchasing 35 turkeys, as well as grocery store gift cards to be distributed to families in need.
The students learned from the parish’s members that the contribution helps to feed more than 40 families and how appreciative their community was for such a hefty donation.
