Latrobe City officials are closing in on a new police chief.

Mayor Eric Bartles told city council this week that city officials have interviewed seven candidates for the available police chief position. The candidates were all “extremely qualified” and city officials will soon be hosting a second round of interviews, he said.

Latrobe has been looking for a new chief since December to replace former Latrobe Police Chief John Sleasman, who announced his retirement plans during an August 2022 city council meeting.

Sergeant Robert Derk was named officer in charge on Aug. 31 and was voted in as acting police chief on Sept. 12.
