Part of Route 381 in Ligonier Township was closed Thursday night because of flooding.

PennDOT announced the closure at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a section of the road between Route 30 and Rolling Rock Lane.

It remained closed as of 10 p.m.

That stretch of road often is subject to flooding during heavy rains.

Citing the threat of heavy rains, the National Weather Service’s Pittsburgh office at midday Thursday issued a flood watch through 8 a.m. Saturday for areas of Southwestern Pennsylvania near and south of Interstate 70.

For the same period, the weather service predicted 2 to 3 inches of rain in eastern and southern Westmoreland County, including Ligonier Township; 2 inches of rain in the remainder of Westmoreland County; and 1.5 to 2 inches of rain in Allegheny County and surrounding areas.
