State police arrested a man wanted on a warrant after he fled from a traffic stop in Washington Township and led a trooper on a high-speed chase.
Antoine Lee Green, 51, of the 400 block of South Sixth Street in Jeannette was charged with a felony count of fleeing from police along with counts of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. He also was issued eight traffic citations that include speeding, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
Green was being detained in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of a $15,000 cash bond. He faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Jason Buczak on April 17.
A state trooper using radar to monitor traffic about 4:30 p.m. April 8 along Route 380 followed a white Chevy Impala after it was clocked going 83 mph in a 55 mph zone, according to a criminal complaint.
Police said Green was the driver and that he ignored the trooper’s lights and kept driving before exiting at the Apollo/Greensburg ramp onto Route 66.
Green was driving about 70 mph in a 45 mph zone when he passed vehicles in the left shoulder and weaved in and out of oncoming traffic, the complaint said.
The vehicle pulled off into an empty lot near Edgewood Drive after blowing a tire, police said. Green was ordered out of the car at gunpoint and taken into custody, according to the complaint.
While being arrested, Green told police that he was wanted on a warrant out of Monroeville, the complaint said. Green was searched after the trooper smelled marijuana, and a small bag of the drug was confiscated, police said.
Green also agreed to allow blood to be drawn to test if he had alcohol or drugs in his system, the complaint said.
Court records show that a warrant for Green’s arrest was issued after he failed to respond to a traffic citation filed Jan. 9 by Monroeville police for driving with a suspended license.
