Two Irwin residents were taken to area trauma centers for treatment after a vehicle overturned on train tracks early Sunday in Manor, according to emergency responders.

The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. and caused a closure of the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks until about 4 a.m., said a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher.

A vehicle made a wrong turn on Liberty Avenue, crashed through a guardrail, descended a hill and landed on its roof on the tracks, officials told Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

The driver, Tyler M. Crawford, 27, of Irwin was taken by ambulance to a hospital, and the passenger, McKenna K. Crawford, 27, also of Irwin was taken to the hospital by helicopter following a nearly hourlong process of freeing her from the wrecked vehicle, according to Penn Township Ambulance Association, which responded to the crash.

Two dogs were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One of the dogs, a fawn-colored Cane Corso named Whitney, fled after the wreck and remained missing Sunday afternoon, the ambulance service said.

The breed is a type of Mastiff native to Italy, according to the American Kennel Club. Whereabouts of the other dog were not immediately clear.

Additional details on the incident were not immediately available.
