Forecasters: Early heat wave precedes cooling off this weekend

Summer doesn’t officially arrive for another few weeks, but don’t tell that to the sun.
Friday is expected to be the crest of the mini heat wave that’s blanketed the region this week, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Bill Modzelewski.
“So far we’re at 87 degrees in Pittsburgh,” Modzelewski said around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon. “That was yesterday’s high and we’re likely to get another couple degrees on top of that before it starts cooling down.”
Saturday’s temperatures will hover in the same area, with a projected high of 88 degrees, Modzelewski said.
“But we do have a cold front moving through,” he added. “We aren’t expecting a lot of rain from that, but it could bring things down to 82 on Sunday into Monday, and by the middle of (next) week we’re looking at getting back into the 70s.”
