Protect PT, an environmental nonprofit located in Penn Township, will host a meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday to gather support for a proposed ordinance regarding gas well drilling and development practices.

In the proposal, the nonprofit requests that the township:

• allow a 2,500-foot buffer between new well pads and residential areas, businesses or schools;

• require bond issues for oil and gas companies to ensure proper well closure and to cover damage that could occur during the drilling process;

• regulate truck traffic and noise caused by fracking;

• require fracking companies to purchase liability insurance.

The meeting will take place in Protect PT’s Community Environment Education Center, located in Suite B at 3344 State Route 130. Attendees will have an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about the proposal with Protect PT representatives.
