Bridgeville Public Library is the site of a “pop-up” art exhibition opening July 21 and running through Aug. 19.

The exhibition, organized and curated by the volunteers of Public Art Bridgeville, features glass sculptures, mosaics and pieces from the Bridgeville Area Historical Society’s Higbee Glass collection.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. July 21 in the library, 505 McMillan St.

Glass sculptors in the exhibition include Sarah Cohen, Dan Droz, Percy Echols II, William Haynes and Michael Mangiafico.

The Higbee Glass Collection features items from the Higbee Glass Plant, which produced tableware from 1907 through 1918 in industrial complex developed by the Bridgeville Land Development Co. Afterward, General Electric purchased the plant, primarily to manufacture light bulbs.

A unique characteristic of J.B. Higbee glassware is a “bumblebee” trademark, which is imprinted at the center of every piece produced in Bridgeville. The letter “H” is embossed on one wing of a bumblebee, “I” on its body and “G” on the other wing.

The Bridgeville Area Historical Society is located in the Kathleen Banks Building, 441 Station St. Visit bridgevillehistory.org, call 412-221-4052 or email mail@bridgevillehistory.org for more information.

Public Art Bridgeville produces indoor and outdoor art exhibitions celebrating art, history, literature and the Bridgeville community. More information is available at www.publicartbridgevillepa.com and by contacting info@publicartbridgeville.com.
