Irwin police to get golf cart

Irwin police will have another vehicle to use during the many community events that are held in the borough.

Irwin Council on Sept. 5 accepted a fully-outfitted golf cart from Brad Harrison, owner of Harrison Auto Sales of North Huntingdon.

Mayor Jeff Clem said the golf cart will be kept at the police station. The word “police” will be placed on the cart.

Irwin gets 1 candidate for council vacancy

The opportunity to serve the remaining few months of former Irwin councilman Mike Yunn’s term drew only one candidate.

Nick Powanda, who won the Republican nomination in the spring primary, was the only person who applied to serve the remainder of Yunn’s term, which expires at the end of the year, said Shari Martino, borough manager. Yunn resigned from council on Aug. 9 because he moved out of the borough.

Powanda is one of three candidates who will be on the November ballot for three seats on council. The two other candidates on the ballot are incumbents — Rick Burdelski and Shawn Stitely.

Craft and vendor show slated

Downtown Irwin will be the site of a fall craft and vendor show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday

The Norwin Historical Society will have its Antiques on Main table at its offices at 219 Main St.
