I-79 paving starts Monday night in Allegheny County

A single-lane restriction on southbound Interstate 79 in Glenfield, Sewickley Hills and Franklin Park boroughs and Ohio and Aleppo townships is scheduled to begin Monday night, according to PennDOT.

Single-lane and shoulder closures will occur on southbound I-79 between I-279 (Parkway North) and the Neville Island Bridge weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday night. Crews will conduct milling and paving operations on I-79 and the intersecting ramp entrances and exits.

Intermittent ramp closures requiring detours will occur on the following ramps:

• Southbound I-79 off-ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68)

• Mt. Nebo Road on-ramp to southbound I-79

• Southbound off-ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

Posted detours are:

Southbound I-79 off-ramp to Mt. Nebo Road

Continue on southbound I-79 past the closed ramp;

Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65);

Turn right onto Grand Avenue;

Take the ramp to northbound I-79;

From northbound I-79 take the ramp to Mt. Nebo Road (Exit 68).

Mt. Nebo Road on-ramp to southbound I-79

Take I-79 northbound;

Take the ramp to Wexford (Exit 73);

Turn left onto Route 910;

Turn left onto the ramp to southbound I-79;

Follow southbound I-79 back to the Mt. Nebo interchange.

Southbound I-79 off-ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66)

Continue on southbound I-79 past the closed ramp;

Take the ramp to Neville Island (Exit 65);

Turn right onto Grand Avenue;

Take the ramp to northbound I-79;

Take the ramp to Route 65 Emsworth/Sewickley (Exit 66);

Stay left toward Glenfield;

Turn right onto Deer Run Road;

Turn left onto Kilbuck Street;

Follow to Glenfield Road.

The prime contractor on the $26.49 million project is the Joseph B. Fay Company. Work on this project will be coordinated with other projects in the area.

To help keep motorists informed as work progresses, PennDOT has created an email distribution list for the I-79 Neville Island Bridge rehabilitation including traffic advisories and construction updates.
