After a standout career at Oklahoma, quarterback J.C. Watts (left) played in the CFL. He opposed Warren Moon in the 1981 Grey Cup, giving the CFL’s title game two starting Black quarterbacks more than 40 years before the Super Bowl followed suit.

Coming out of Washington, Warren Moon (center) was told he would have to switch positions to play in the NFL. Instead, Moon went to the CFL, where he won five Grey Cups before signing with the then-Houston Oilers before the 1984 NFL season.
