Residents living in higher elevations of Southwestern Pennsylvania region are under a winter storm warning until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service has issued the advisory for Somerset County, as well as eastern sections of Indiana, Westmoreland and Fayette counties, where higher elevations in the Laurel Highlands lead to more snow accumulation.

That area already saw more than 1 inch of snow overnight and could see potentially more Tuesday morning. Temperatures have been hovering around freezing and are not expected to warm up until Wednesday.

The weather service said bands of snow formed off Lake Erie early in the morning and are heading toward the Laurel Highlands. The weather service said the bands have the potential to produce 1 to 2 inches of snow relatively quickly.

More than a dozen school districts are on morning delays in Indiana, Westmoreland, Greene and Fayette counties, according to TribLive news partner WTAE-TV.

A wave of snow hit western Allegheny County and eastern Washington County on Tuesday morning, and scattered snow showers are forecasted for the entire Pittsburgh region, but with light accumulation.
